Abstract THERE IS PROVIDED A NOVEL METHOD OF PREPARING DIEBNZOCYCLOHEPTENONES HAVING, OPTIONALLY, SUBSTITUENTS IN EITHER OR BOTH OF THE BENZO-NUCLEI. THE METHOD COMPRISES CONVERSION OF THE APPROPRIATE STILBENE CARBOXYLIC ACID TO THE CORRESPONDING ACID CHLORIDE, HALOGENATION OF THE BRIDGE DOUBLE BOND, RING CLOSURE AND DEHALOGENATION.
