Abstract ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBONS OF FROM 5 TO 8 CARBON ATOMS HAVING TOW METHYL SUBSTITUENTS ON THE SAME CARBON ATOM OR MORE HIGHLY BRANCED C5 TO C8 ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBONS ARE SEPARATED FROM ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBONS OF FROM 5 TO 8 CARBON ATOMS HAVING TWO METHYL GROUPS ON DIFFERENT CARBON ATOMS OR LESS-BRANCHED C5 TO C8 ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBONS BY SELECTIVE ADSORPTION EMPLOYING A SPECIALLY-TREATED OFFRETITE ZEOLITE WHICH HAS BEEN ION-EXCHANGED WITH A GROUP IIA OR RARE EARTH METAL. USE OF THIS SEPARATION TO INCREASE THE OCTANE RATING OF GASOLINE IS ALSO DISCLOSED.
