Abstract

Abstract An apparatus sequentially comprises an article infeed station for conveying a plurality of sealed bags in tandem, an article conveying station for receiving and moving the bags transversely relative to the infeed station, a carton conveying station for simultaneously moving shipping cartons parallel to the article conveying station and a packing station for depositing layers of the bags in the cartons. The infeed station comprises a plurality of parallel chutes and an underlying conveyor which sequentially deposits a bag from each chute onto a conveyor of the article conveying station. The latter conveyor moves the bags into the packing station whereat each bag is picked up by a vacuum head and deposited into a carton which is moved thereunder by a conveyor of the carton conveying station.
