Abstract A METHOD FOR MAKING POLYETHERIMIDES IS PROVIDED INVOLVING THE REACTION OF AROMATIC BIS(ETHER ANHYDRIDE)S AND ORGANIC DIISOCYANATES IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALKALI CARBONATE CATALYST. POLYMERIZATION CAN BE EFFECTED UNDER MELT CONDITIONS, OR AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES USING A NONPOLAR SOLVENT. THE POLYETHERIMIDES CAN BE INJECTION MOLDED TO USEFUL SHAPES.
