Abstract

Abstract Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices by encapsulating a unitary pole-shoe magnet group into a casting of nonmagnetic material. The pole-shoe portion of the group is formed of a plurality of integral, stacked ferromagnetic laminations, each having between the shoe portions an interconnecting web disposed radially inward of the outer surface of the pole-shoes. The magnetomotive device is cast so that the outer surfaces of the pole-shoe laminations are generally flush with the outer diameter of the casting. The interconnecting web portions are then removed so that the pole-shoes are magnetically separated. Alternatively, the disclosure is concerned with a pole-shoe magnet group for a flywheel magneto which is composed of a plurality of stacked ferromagnetic laminations embracing a permanent magnet. Each of the laminations has at least two pole-shoe portions interconnected by a web disposed radially inward of the outer surface of the pole-shoes whereby the web may be removed by a single drilling operation.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 157 words
Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices comprising the steps of encapsulating in a nonmagnetic body having an axis of rotation, a pole-shoe magnet group including a magnet and a plurality of integral, stacked ferromagnetic laminations, each having pole-shoe portions, said portions having respective surfaces defining in part a cylindrical surface about a given radius of curvature from said axis of rotation and serving as surfaces of flux emanation, and a web interconnecting said poleshoe portions and being disposed within said nonmagnetic body so as not to extend radially outward of said cylindrical surface defined in part by said pole-shoe surfaces, forming said magnetomotive device such that said surfaces of flux emanation are generally flush with a final diameter of the nonmagnetic body and thereafter removing the webs of said stacked laminations such that said pole-shoes are magnetically separated whereby the magnetic lines of flux generated by said magnet extend from poleto-pole outwardly of said surfaces of flux emanation.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 157 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 37 words
Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices as set forth in claim 1 in which said device is a flywheel magneto which is formed by die casting and the webs of said stacked laminations include generally cylindrical hub portions.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices as set forth in claim 1 in which said webs are removed by broaching.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices as set forth in claim 2 in which said hub portion of said stacked laminations includes a concentric bore therethrough and said hub is removed by drilling using said bore as a drill guide.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 39 words
Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices as set forth in claim 4 in which the outer diameter of the hub is less than the diameter of said drill whereby the hub portion of the web is entirely removed by drilling.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 37 words
Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices as set forth in claim 5 in which a projection is provided in the casting die to form a tapered pilot in the casting material communicating with the bore of said web.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 49 words
Method of fabricating magnetomotive devices as set forth in claim 6 in which said casting material is aluminum and wherein after casting the flywheel, its pole-shoe radius of curvature is cleaned by a die-stamping operation to insure that said surfaces of flux emanation are flush with the aluminum casting.
