Abstract
Abstract COAL CONTAINING PYRITIC SULFUR IS PROCESSED AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE AND PROCESSURE WITH WATER AND AIR TO CONVERT THE PYRITIC SULFUR TO WATER-SOLUBLE FERROUS AND FERRIC SULFATE. THE RESULTING SLURRY IS FILTERED TO PRODUCE A COAL PRODUCT OF DIMINISHED SULFUR CONTENT WHICH MAY BE BURNED WITHOUT CAUSING AIR POLLUTION DUE TO SULFUR DIOXIDE EMISSION.
