Abstract
Abstract A terrain model viewing device for an aircraft flight simulator comprises an articulated arm mounting a camera at its free end and having its other end pivotally mounted on a base to one side of the model in the case where the model is horizontal or above or below the model in the case where the model is vertical. The arm can be connected to a guide tract attached to a moveable gantry. Also two articulated arms can be used.

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim
188 words
A camera support device for use with a simulator to permit viewing of a substantially planar terrain model, comprising a fixed support base and an articulated arm having first and second arm sections, the first arm section having one end pivotally mounted on said base about a first axis and the other end articulated to one end of the second arm section about a second axis parallel to said first axis, the other end of said second arm section being a free end, an elongated guide track extending in an elongated direction substantially perpendicular to said axes, guide means mounted on and movable along said guide track and pivotally connected to the free end of said second arm section, camera means mounted on the free end of said second arm section for permitting viewing in a viewing plane normal to said axes, first motor means for controllably swinging said arm about said base, second motor means for controllably varying the angle of articulation between said first and second arm sections, and means for producing an output signal representative of the angle between said first and second arm sections.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
54 words
A device according to claim 1, including a gantry spanning said viewing plane, said guide track being mounted on and extending along the gantry, and means mounting the gantry for movement along a plane substantially parallel to said viewing plane and in a direction substantially transverse to the elongated direction of the guide track.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
27 words
A device according to claim 1, wherein said axes are horizontal to permit the viewing of a terrain model which extends vertically with respect to the horizon.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
81 words
A device according to claim 1, wherein said arm includes third and fourth arm sections, the third arm section having one end pivotally mounted on said base about said first axis and the other end articulated to one end of the fourth arm section about a third axis parallel to said first axis, the other end of the fourth arm section being pivotally connected to the free end of said second arm section about an axis parallel to said first axis.
