Abstract THE PROCESS DESCRIBED HEREIN INVOLVES A METHOD OF GRAFTING STYRENE, ETC. ONTO A POLYMER OF BUTADIEND OR ISOPRENE, AFTER THE POLYMER HAS BEEN PRETREATED WITH AN ALKYL LITHIUM OR SODIUM IN THE PRESENCE OF A SECONDARY ALKYL CHLORIDE TO PREVENT THE FORMATION OF STYRENE HOMOPOLYMER OR LARGE BLOCKS OF POLYSTYRENE WHICH ARE OTHERWISE FORMED.
