Abstract
Abstract Soluble methylol phosphine adducts which contain halogen atoms attached to aromatic carbon atoms are prepared by reacting tris(hydroxymethyl)phosphine with halogen substituted phenols which contain one or more hydrogens ortho or para to the phenolic hydroxyl group. These adducts are convenient and useful for (a) the preparation of flame-resistant polymers and (b) the preparation of flame- and glow-resistant organic fibrous materials and flame-, glow-, wrinkle-, and shrink-resistant woven and knit textiles wich contain about 25 percent or more cellulosic fibers.
