Abstract

Abstract Urea is prilled by spraying urea droplets downwardly into a solidification zone where it is contacted with a substantially inert gas. Prills are directed into a collector by diverting their flow by directing a gas through a perforated, inverted cone or pyramid located at the bottom of and in communication with said zone.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 18
Claim 1
Independent Claim 24 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said introducing means further includes second means for feeding said gas above said perforated surface of said trough.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 45 words
Apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said discharge means is located higher above said trough than said second feeding means, whereby gas fed in From said second feeding means rises to an upper section of said tower where it is discharged via said discharge means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
Apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said first feeding means supplies a minor portion of said gas and said second feeding means supplies a major portion of said gas.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said minor portion of said gas comprises approximately 5-30 percent by volume of said gas.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 10 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said gas is air.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 11 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said hollow frustum is frusto-conical.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 14 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said hollow frustum is an inverted pyramidal member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 27 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said introducing means further comprises a sealed chamber below said perforated surface into which said first feeding means feeds said gas.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said perforated surface of said trough includes a mesh member.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 44 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said trough includes a wall having a plurality of openings formed therein and spaced below said perforated surface, gas from said first feeding means passing through said wall openings and then through the perforations of said perforated surface.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus according to claim 11, comprising spacer members maintaining said perforated surface spaced from said wall with a predetermined spacing therebetween.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 23 words
Apparatus according to claim 11, wherein a chamber is formed between said perforated surface and said wall, and further between adjacent spacer members.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 18 words
Apparatus according to claim 11, comprising sealing means sealing said perforated surface to the edges of said walls.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said wall forms a sealed chamber between the upper surface thereof and said perforated surface.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 20 words
Apparatus according to claim 15, wherein said sealed chamber is formed all around the total upper surface of said wall.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said perforated surface is at an angle of approximately 20*-30* with respect to the horizontal.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 28 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the total area of the perforations of said perforated surface is greater than the remaining surface area of said perforated surface. 19
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 29 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said perforated surface disperses said gas into a plurality of fine gas streams distributed over substantially the whole surface of said perforated trough.
