Abstract

Abstract The strength of the seal of an open end parison preform fabricated at orientation temperature is increased by forming a dependent bead within a closely adjacent longitudinal recess. In an alternate embodiment the appearance of seals is improved, and pin holes reduced by forming a dependent bead in a manner such that the longitudinal stem (web) connecting the bead flares outward adjacent a bottom wall of the article being molded.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said mold halves form a bottle mold.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 41 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said general bottom wall-forming surface terminates at an outward end thereof in a surface which slopes downwardly and outwardly to give a flat annular bottom wall-forming surface around the periphery of the article being molded.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said narrow bottom wall-forming surface adjacent said stem-forming surface has a width of 0.0004 to 0.06 times the average diameter of the entire bottom-forming portion of said mold.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said narrow longitudinal bottom wall-forming surface projects above said general bottom wall-forming surface an amount equal to 0.006 to 0.2 times the average diameter of the entire bottom-forming portion of said mold.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 58 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said narrow wall-forming surface adjacent said stem-forming surface has a wiDth of 0.01 to 0.04 times the average diameter of the entire bottom wall-forming portion of said mold and projects above said general bottom wall-forming surface an amount equal to 0.02 to 0.1 times the entire bottom wall-forming portion of said mold.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 32 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said narrow bottom wall-forming surface adjacent said stem-forming surfaces is curved to give a narrower and deeper recess in the central portion of the resulting article.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 26 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said stem-forming surfaces are curved so as to give a thicker stem in the central portion of said molded article.
Claim 10
