Abstract HYDROCARBONS ARE CONVERTED TO A HYDROGEN-RICH GAS STREAM BY FIRST PRODUCING A CARBONACEOUS CATALYTIC SYSTEM HAVING LONG, THIN, COIL-LIKE CARBON FIBERS, ONE END OF WHICH IS ATTACHED TO A GROUP VIII, NON-NOBLE METAL COMPOSITION, AND THEN CONTACTING THE CATALYTIC CATBON WITH STEAM AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 800* AND 1200* F.
