Abstract
Abstract Masks to be cleaned are immersed in a tank in which liquid circulation is maintained at and past the masks, and over a filtering weir. This circulation is induced by a high-volume, low-pressure, and low-velocity system that creates a gravity pressure head to maintain the circulation with a minimum of energy loss. In the preferred form of the machine, the pressure system centers in a shrouded axial-flow propeller driving downward the liquid in a low-pressure portion of the tank to establish the pressure head differential. Provision is made for controlling the deposit of condensate accumulating on the cover of the heated tank.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
202 words
A machine for cleaning masks used in painting operations, said machine having a tank, mask-holding means adapted to place and hold masks within said tank, and liquid-circulating means operative to direct a stream of liquid within said tank at masks held by said mask-holding means, wherein the improvement comprises: partition means in said tank separating said tank into portions; flow-induction means included in said liquid-circulating means, and operative to establish a difference of liquid static pressure head of the liquid on one side of said partition means with respect to that of the liquid on the other side of said partition means, said mask-holding means being disposed to place masks in the high-pressure portion of said tank; a discharge duct also included in said liquid circulating means and extending along at least one vertical wall of said tank, said duct having discharge ports directing liquid laterally in said high-pressure tank portion toward said mask-holding means and partition means; a perforate panel extending from an upper edge portion of said partition means and constituting the floor of an overflow duct carrying liquid from said high pressure tank portion to said low pressure tank portion; and particle-collecting means disposed downstream from said perforate panel.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
43 words
A machine as defined in claim 1, wherein said flow-induction means is a pump urging liquid drawn from said low-pressure tank portion downward, and said liquid-circulating means also includes a supply duct extending from the output of said pump to said discharge duct.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
27 words
A machine as defined in claim 2, wherein said supply duct extends along the bottom of said tank and communicates with the bottom of said discharge duct.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
182 words
A machine for cleaning masks used in painting operations, said machine having a tank, mask-holding means adapted to place and hold masks within said tank, and liquid-circulating means operative to direct a stream of liquid within said tank at masks held by said mask-holding means, wherein the improvement comprises: partition means in said tank separating said tank into portions; flow-induction means included in said liquid-circulating means, and operative to extablish a difference of liquid static pressure head of the liquid on one side of said partition means with respect to that of the liquid on the other side of said partition means, said mask-holding means being disposed to place masks in the high-pressure portion of said tank, said mask holding means being inclined to the horizontal and oriented to direct flow within said tank in an upward direction; a perforate panel extending from an upper edge portion of said partition means and constituting the floor of an overflow duct carrying liquid from said high pressure tank portion to said low pressure tank portion; and particle-collecting means disposed downstream from said perforate panel.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim

A machine as defined in claim 4, wherein said mask-holding means is upstream from said perforate panel with respect to a flow induced completely and continuously across said tank by said flow-induction means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
48 words
A machine as defined in claim 5, wherein said mask-holding means is disposed within said tank to provide a passage below and behind said mask-holding means, with respect to said flow, said partition means having portions disposed to direct said flow upwardly at an incline to the vertical.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
45 words
A machine as defined in claim 1, additionally including cover means adapted to cover at least portions of the top of said tank, and also cover-lifting means operative to tilt said cover downward-inward on lifting said cover, with respect to the front of said machine.
