Abstract
Abstract A method for increasing the viscosity of dilute solutions of hydrophilic colloids is desired, by incorporating therein a viscosity increasing concentration of a polymer comprising at least about 50 mole percent of units of the structure: WHEREIN R1 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group of from one to four carbon atoms, R2 is a lower alkylene group of from one to four carbon atoms, x is zero or one and M is a moiety selected from the group consisting of ammonium, alkali metal cations, salt-forming amines and mixtures thereof.
