Abstract

Abstract A multipurpose weatherstrip construction for a slidable panel or window sash comprising a rigid vinyl weather seal member of double H-section received within a recess in a frame member and providing channels for edges of a panel member and a spring means on one side of the panel member for laterally biasing the insert members on each side of the panel member and panel member into weather sealing engagement with each other and with the associated frame members. A weather sealing member of extruded rigid vinyl material and comprising outer and intermediate parallel spaced flanges of uniform width and a web means interconnecting said flanges, the outer flanges having inturned beads adapted to seal against a panel edge at one side thereof, said web means having a surface adapted to seal panel edges at the other side thereof, said plurality of flanges having sealing edge faces adapted to seal against said frame member, and said web means having spaced ports adapted to receive a latch bolt means to adjustably position the panel in the frame.

A weatherstrip construction for sealing the space between spaced apart frame members and a panel movable between and along said frame members, comprising in combination: longitudinally extending recess means in each frame member lying in a planar zone and presenting side and bottom recess surfaces; a longitudinally extending rigid vinyl weatherstrip member seated in each recess means in fixed relation to said frame member and slidably fitted in said recess means; each weatherstrip member having the same cross sectional configuration and comprising a plurality of flanges lying in spaced parallel planes parallel to said side recess surfaces, a transverse main web interconnecting said plurality of flanges and asymmetrically located with respect to edges of said flanges whereby said web and flanges define channels on opposite sides of the web of unequal depth; said weatherstrip members being slidably fitted in said recess means with a deep channel on one member facing a shalloW channel on the other member; said deep channel being provided with a longitudinal opening defined by a planar surface on one side and a surface having a bead on the other side, said planar surface and bead slidably sealably engaging edge margins of a panel; the edge margins of the panel received in the deep channel also carrying spring means receivable within said deep channel and slidably engagable with said main web for biasing said panel toward the opposite weatherstrip member; said opposite weatherstrip member having a shallow channel receiving the opposite edge margins of said panel, said main web of said last mentioned weatherstrip member providing a slidable sealing engagement with edge faces of the edge margin of the panel, one of said flanges having internal side faces slidably sealably engaging side faces on the edge margin of the panel received in said shallow channel; said main web having longitudinally spaced ports therein said spring means having means providing a sliding seat on the surface of the main web at the bottom of the deep channel for bridging said spaced ports.
