Abstract THE PROCESS DESCRRIBED HEREIN INVOLVES A METHOD OF REACTING STYRENE WTH A POLYMER OF BUTADIENE OF ISOPRENE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALKYL LITHIUM OR SODIUM AND A SECONDARY ALKYL CHLORIDE TO EFFECT THE GRAFTING OF SHORT BRANCHES OF POLYSTYRENE AND TO PREVENT THE FORMATION OF BLOCK COMPOLYMERS WHICH ARE OTHERWISE FORMED.
