Abstract SOLID ORGANIC POLYMERS NORMALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO BURNING ARE RENDERED SELF-EXTINGUISHING BY INCORPORATING THEREIN AN ESTER OF A,B-DIBROMODIHYDROCINNAMIC ACID OR A,B-DIBROMODIHYDROCINNAMYL ALCOHOL; FOR EXAMPLE, 2,4-DIISOPROPYLPHENYL, A,B - DIBROMODIHYDROCINNAMATE. THE SELF - EXTINGUISHING AGENTS USEFUL IN THE INVENTION ARE UNEXPECTEDLY STABLE TO THEHYDROLYTIC CONDITIONS OF IMPREGNATION, YET ARE HIGHLY REACTIVE AS SELF-EXTINGUISHING AGENTS.
