Abstract THE DISCLOSURE IS DIRECTED TO DIASTEREOMERIC MIXTURES OF 1,3-DIHYDRO - 3 - SUBSTITUTED-5-P;HENYL-2$-1,4-BENZODIAZEPIN-2-ONES AND TO THE PROCESS FOR THE SEPARATION OF THE DIASTEREOMERS. THE COMPOUNDS OF THE INVENTION HAVE THE STRUCTURAL FORMULA 1-R1,3-(R2-O-),5-(Y-PHENYL)-7-X-2,3-DIHYDRO-1H-1,4- BENZODIAZEPIN-2-ONE WHERE X, Y, R1 AND R2 ARE AS DEFINED BELOW. THE COMPOUNDS HAVE MARKED CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DEPRESSANT EFFECTS AS WELL AS MUSCLE RELAXANT AND ANTIANXIETY PROPERTIES WHEN EVALUATED IN STANDARD PHARMACOLOGICAL PROCEDURES.
