Abstract WHEREIN R1 IS A BRANCHED OR CYCLIC ALKYL GROUP OF 3 TO 8 CARBON ATOMS, R2 IS A LOWER ALKYL GROUP OF 1 TO 2 CARBON ATOMS, N IS AN INTEGER 0 OR 1 AND C* REPRESENTS THAT THE RADICALS ATTACHED TO THE CARBON ATOM SHOW AN L-CONFIGURATION WHEN N IS 1. THE PRESENT INVENTION IS ALSO DIRECTED TO METHODS OF PRODUCING THE AFOREMENTIONED ESTERS. THESE COMPOUNDS HAVE EXCELLENT UTILITY AS SWEETENERS FOR FOOD, BEING FREE FROM AN OBJECTIONABLE AFTER-TASTE AND HAVING A QUALITY OF SWEETNESS COMPARABLE TO SUCROSE.
