Abstract
Abstract Curable thermoplastic polymer compositions having low acid numbers are prepared by a novel one step procedure by reacting an alpha, beta-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, anhydride, or acid halide with a mixture of oxyalkylated derivatives of a polyfunctional novolak resin mixture and a substantial proportion, at least 5 percent by weight of oxyalkylated derivative of a monofunctional phenol. The thermoplastic polymer compositions are co-polymerizable with ethylenically unsaturated monomers, e.g., styrene, to form thermoset polymers which are characterized by excellent resistance to caustic alkalis.
