Abstract
Abstract This describes a spatial distribution, amount, density and configuration of burnable poison to control a predetermined amount of excess reactivity and to maintain a constant or stationary power distribution during the operating cycle of a nuclear reactor core. In the illustrated embodiment of the invention the burnable poison is distributed throughout the core in a relatively small number of the fuel rods. In a preferred embodiment of the invention putonium fuel is used in conjunction with the burnable poison to improve local power distribution and control margin and as an effective means for utilizing plutonium fuel.
