Abstract A NEW CLASS OF ORGANOCHROMIUM COMPOUNDS ARE DESCRIBED, NAMELY, TETRAVALENT CHROMIUM COMPOUNDS HAVING THE FORMULA Y4CR WHERE Y IS ALKYL , CYCLOHEXYL-SUBSTITUTED ALKYL OR PHENYL-SUBSTITUTED ALKYL. TYPICAL COMPOUNDS ARE TETRA(NEOPENTYL) CHROMIUM, TETRA (CYCLOHEXYLMETHYL) CHROMIUM AND TETRA(NEOPHYL) CHROMIUM. THESE COMPOUNDS ARE NEW CATALYSTS FOR THE POLYMERIZATION OF 1-OLEFINS AND CAN BE USED IN SOLUTION OR EXTENDED ON A SOLID SUPPORT SUCH AS SILICA.
