Abstract
Abstract A bursting apparatus in which a first stretch of feed chain advances a carrier stock to a loading station and a second stretch advances the loaded section of carrier stock beyond the loading station where it is torn from the body of the carrier by effecting relatively longitudinal movement between the chain stretches preferably along a preformed score line. Positive engagement of pins on the feed chain with holes in the carrier stock permits feeding and tearing off the sections successively.

146 words
Apparatus for feeding lengthwise and tearing into sections an elongated strip of paper-like stock having transverse lines of weakening between such sections and a series of holes extending along one longitudinal edge of the stock, said apparatus comprising an elongated feed chain having a series of pins extending along one side thereof adapted to engage successive holes in the stock, said chain having a first stretch, a second stretch generally aligned with the first stretch and a bend portion intermediate the first and second stretches deflected out of alignment therewith in a bend formation, and means operable to effect abrupt relative separation between the chain stretches in order thereby to tear from the body of stock a section having holes which are engaged by the first stretch of chain from a section of stock having holes which are simultaneously engaged by the second stretch of chain.

Dependent Claim
216 words
Apparatus for feeding lengthwise and tearing into sections an eLongated strip of paper-like stock having transverse lines of weakening between such sections and a series of holes extending along one longitudinal edge of the stock, said apparatus comprising a first feed means extending along a first portion of the stock and having a plurality of elements in series arrangement simultaneously engaging corresponding holes in said first portion of the stock, a second feed means extending along a second portion of the stock and having a plurality of elements in series arrangement simultaneously engaging corresponding holes in said second portion of the stock, drive means operable on the first and second feed means to effect movement thereof conjointly in a direction lengthwise of the stock thus engaged by the elements of said first and second feed means so as to cooperatively advance the stock in a progressive lengthwise direction, and separating means coordinated with the drive means and intermittently operable on the first and second feed means to effect relative separation movement between the first and second feed means with an abruptness and degree of displacement which effects tearing off successive first portions of the stock being successively engaged by the first feed means from the remaining second portions of stock along successive lines of weakening therebetween.
