Abstract SINGLE-SPECIES POLYMERIC LATICES OF ENHANCED WET STRENGTH AS BONDING AGENTS ARE PREPARED BY COPOLYMERIZING A MAJOR PORTION OF ETHYLENICALLY-UNSATURATED MONOMER OF MONOMERS WITH A MINOR PORTION OF AN AMPHOLYTIC MONOMER IN THE FORM OF HALF-ESTER OR ACID-AMIDE DERIVATIVES OF MALIEC, ITACONIC, AND CITRACONIC ACIDS. THE LATTER ARE PREPARED BY REACTING THE APPROPRIATE AACID ANHYDRIDE WITH CERTAIN DIAMINES OR AMINO ALCOHOLS.
