Abstract AQUEOUS, STABLE, DILUTABLE SOLS AND AQUEOUS, REPDISPERSIBLE GELS HAVING WEIGHT RATIO OF TIO2: WO3 OF AT LEAST 0.15 CONTAINING TUNGSTEN AND TITANIUM AND OPTIONALLY OTHER METALS ARE MADE BY MIXING FRESHLY PRECIPITATED TUNGSTIC ACID OR A TUNGSTATE WITH AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF TITANIUM SALT. THE SOLS AND GELS MAY BE CALCINED AT TEMPERATURES BELOW 1800* C. IN THE PRESCENCE OF CARBONACEOUS MATERIAL TO GIVE MIXED TUNGSTEN-TITANIUM CARBIDES.
