Abstract

Abstract A METHOD FOR TEMPERING GLASS SHEET IS DISCLOSED IN WHICH THE GLASS IS HEATED TO A TEMPERATURE ABOVE ITS STAIN POINT, BUT BELOW ITS SOFTENING POINT AND THEN CONTACTED WITH AN OXYALKYLENE POLYMER QUENCHING MEDIUM. THE OXYALKYLENE POLYMERS PROVIDE A RELATIVELY HIGH AND UNIFORM HEAT TRANSFER WHICH MAKES THEM PARTICULARLY USEFUL AS TEMPERING MEDIA FOR THE TEMPERING OF THIN GLASS.
