Abstract A SELECTIVE CATALYST COMPRISING A CATALYTICALLY ACTIVE MATERIAL ASSOCIATED WITH MOLECULAR SIEVE CARBON IN SUCH MANNER THAT THE CARBON PREVENTS ACCESS TO THE CATALYTICALLY ACTIVE MATERIAL OF MOLECULES HAVING A SIZE ABOVE A PREDETERMINED VAULE. THE CATALYST IS PREPARED BY FORMING A DISPERSION OF A CATALYTICALLY ACTIVE MATERIAL IN A ALIPHATIC ALCOHOL, POLYMERIZING THE ALCOHOL TO FORM A THERMOSETTING POLYMERIC RESIN AND CARONIZING THE RESIN IN AN INERT ATMOSPHERE.
