Abstract
Abstract A tapping spindle having a shank with a torque release clutch built into the shank so that the overall size is reduced adapting it for use in a machine carrying multiple closely spaced spindles. The clutch comprises a driving sleeve and a driven sleeve member, and is combined with an automatic depth control in the spindle. In one form the tapping spindle has a removable tool chuck holder having the torque release chuck built into it, the holder being rotatable relative to the spindle.
