Abstract

Abstract Apparatus for heating yarns of indefinite continuous length as the yarn advances longitudinally comprises an arc discharge device positioned in the vicinity of the yarn or in contact therewith so that the arc follows the yarn or passes through same. Means may also be provided to moisten the yarn with a conductive fluid before the arc is applied.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 18
Claim 1
Independent Claim 29 words
Apparatus for heating yarns of indefinite continuous length, characterized by means for advancing the yarn longitudinally, and means for providing an arc discharge adjacent the path of the yarn.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 29 words
Apparatus for heating yarns of indefinite continuous length, characterized by means for advancing the yarn longitudinally, and means for providing an arc discharge adjacent the path of the yarn.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the arc discharge is provided in advance of false-twist means whereby the yarn is heat-set in twisted condition.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that at least one pair of electrodes is arranged immediately adjacent the yarn, that the arc extends in parallel with the yarn.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 24 words
Apparatus according to claim 3, characterized in that the electrodes are so spaced from the yarn that the arc passes lengthwise through the yarn.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
Apparatus according to claim 3, characterized in that in the distance through which the yarn passes, and in advance of the electrodes, means are provided for moistening the yarn with a conductive liquid.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
Apparatus according to claim 5, characterized in that the moistening means is a fog chamber.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
Apparatus according to claim 5, characterized in that the moistening means is a rotating roller in contact with the yarn and which yields a conductive liquid.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 22 words
Apparatus according to claim 5, characterized in that the moistening device comprises a wick transferring the liquid into contact with the yarn.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 25 words
Apparatus according to claim 5, characterized in that the moistening device comprises capillaries in contact with the yarn for transferring the liquid to the yarn.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 22 words
Apparatus according to claim 3, characterized in that the electrodes are in the form of rings through which the yarn is passed.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 29 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the means for providing the arc discharge are so arranged that the arc extends transversely with respect to the yarn movement.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 22 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that control means are provided for interrupting the arc discharge in regular or irregular intervals.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 31 words
Method of heating yarn comprising, advancing yarn longitudinally and striking an arc in the immediate vicinity of the yarn so as to heat same by the arc to a desired temperature.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 31 words
Method of heating yarn comprising, advancing yarn longitudinally and striking an arc in the immediate vicinity of the yarn so as to heat same by the arc to a desired temperature.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 20 words
Method according to claim 13, wherein the arc passes transversely of the yarn and the yarn passes through the arc.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 20 words
Method according to claim 13, wherein the arc is disposed parallel to and along a length of the advancing yarn.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 19 words
Method according to claim 13, wherein the yarn is treated with a conductive fluid before the arc is applied.
