Abstract
Abstract The invention disclosed herein relates to a lifting member and more specifically to an extendable type horizontal lifting bar adapted for adjustment by a pair of slidable telescoping members and a unique clamping device for rigidly affixing them in individual positions for adjustment to maintain a load to be lifted in a horizontal position at all times.

An improved lifting member comprising: a. a body member consisting of first and second longitudinal members rigidly attached to each other having formed therebetween first and second longitudinal slots; b. a first extendable member consisting of third and fourth longitudinal members rigidly affixed to each other and spaced from each other to form third and fourth longitudinal slots therebetween; c. a second extendable member consisting of fifth and sixth longitudinal members rigidly affixed to each other and spaced from each other to form fifth and sixth longitudinal slots therebetween; d. a first clamping means positioned on said body member having first and second positions, said first position allowing said first extendable member to move within said body member and in said second position said first extendable member is held by friction in a preset position; and e. a second clamping means positioned on said body member having first and second positions, said first position allowing said second extendable member to move within said body member and in said second position said second extendable member is held by friction in a preset position.
