Abstract

Abstract A scanner apparatus for optically discernible characters, especially characters associated with an article and applied thereat or thereto, wherein a transmitted beam which on the basis of a rotary- or oscillating movement of a movable component of a beam deflecting mechanism which produces or further conveys a light beam scans about an axis of a reference plane. According to the invention a first cylindrical lens member is arranged between the reference plane and the movable component of the beam deflecting mechanism. This first cylindrical lens member extends in the scanning direction and images or portrays the surface of the beam deflecting member, which transmits the transmitted light beam at least when the transmitted light beam impinges perpendicularly upon the scanning track, within a depth of focus region which contains the reference plane.
