Abstract A MICROAPERTURED FOAM OF A POLYMERIC MATERIAL, SUCH AS POLYPROYLENE. THE FOAM CAN BE APPLIED TO AN ELASTOMERIC CORE YARN, SUCH AS A SPANDEX CORE, TO FORM A SHEATH AROUND THE CORE. THE FOAM SHEATH PROTECTS THE CORE YARN FROM DEGRADATION, WHILE IMPROVING DYEABILITY, ELONGATIONTO-BREAK, AND OTHER PROPERTIES OF THE SHEATH-CORE COMOSITE FILAMENT OVER ART-KNOWN COMPOSITE FILAMENTS.
