Abstract

Abstract A safety ski binding comprise a heel-holding device and an abutment mounted on the ski as well as the sole of the skiing boot. The heel-holding device normally forces the sole of the boot against the abutment and in response to a vertically and/or horizontally directed overload releases the skiing boot. The abutment consists of a disc, which is secured to the ski to be at least approximately coaxial to the tibia and when the skiing boot is applied extends into a corresponding recess in the sole of the boot.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 124 words
A safety ski binding system comprising a disc-shaped abutment mounted on a ski in a position adapted to be coaxial to the tibia of the skier, a skiing boot having a recess in a sole thereof adapted to receive said disc-shaped abutment and having a horizontal opening in said sole which extends approximately transversely to the longitudinal direction of said sole and which communicates with said recess, said skiing boot being pivotally movable with respect to said disc-shaped abutment in response to a horizontally directed force, and heel holding means mounted on the ski and adapted to cooperate with the sole of said skiing boot to force said sole against said abutment and to release said boot in response to a predetermined overload force.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 124 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 1 in which said disc-shaped abutment has a wedge-shaped top portion having wedge-shaped surfaces extending in the longitudinal direction of the ski.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 56 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 2 in which said skiing boot has a wedge-shaped nose portion positioned opposite to said recess and has a ridge portion extending in the longitudinal direction of said skiing boot and in which said wedge-shaped nose portion extends into said horizontal opening in the sole of said skiing boot.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 1 in which said recess is lined with a shell of wear-resistant material.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 54 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 1 and further comprising toe-holding means mounted on the ski and adapted to engage the top of the toe portion of the sole of said skiing boot and comprising spring means and means displaceable in the longitudinal direction of said ski against the bias of said spring.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 74 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 5 in which said toe-holding means comprises a longitudinally displaceable carrier plate, two mushroom-shaped rollers rotatably mounted on said carrier plate and adapted to engage the top of the toe portion of the sole of said skiing boot and an endless belt attached to each of said rollers so that the rotation of one of said rollers causes the corresponding rotation of the other of said rollers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 17 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 6 in which the underside of said rollers is conical.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 14 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 1 in which said sole is detachable.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 16 words
The safety ski binding system of claim 8 in which said sole is a metal plate.
