Abstract
Abstract The specification discloses an apparatus and method for adapting a standard tire retreading mold to use the newer continuous precured and premolded tire tread in retreading tires. The apparatus and method also make it possible to adapt a single size standard tire retreading mold to retread a number of different size tires by use of a mold liner and a plurality of variably sized gasket sealing means.

Tire retreading apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said mold liner is formed of two annular sections, one located on each side of the mold prepared for retreading to complement the two sides of a standard retreading mold, one of said annular sections having a sealing means mounted thereon to seal against the other annular section and provide a seal against the passage of fluid.

Tire retreading apparatus to assist in adapting a standard retreading mold to retread a tire carcass with a precured and premolded tire tread as claimed in claim 1 wherein said mold liner further comprises a first layer of thin, flexible material to surround the tire assembly prepared for retreading from sidewall to sidewall, a second layer of relatively thick uncured rubber to cover the tread molding portion of a standard retreading mold, and a third layer of thin, flexible non-thermoplastic material to cover said second layer and enclose it between said first and third layer.
