Claim 1
Independent Claim
99 words
In the cooling system as claimed in claim 1, the improvement wherein the reinforcement of said radiator outlet hose consists essentially of a single layer of knitted textile fabric, the major portion of which is composed of treated polyester fibers forming a semi-rigid generally circumferential supporting structure for the hose, said hose thereby capable of withstanding a hydrostatic pressure of at least 150 psi when tested according to ASTM D-380 and a vacuum pressure greater than 3 1/2 inches of mercury when at least a six-inch long section thereof is subjected to a continuously increasing vacuum at room temperature.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
56 words
The improvement as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of said hoses has an inside diameter of about 1 1/2 inches and is capable of withstanding a vacuum pressure of at least 12 inches of mercury when at least a six-inch long section thereof is subjected to a continuously increasing vacuum at room temperature.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
56 words
The improvement as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of said hoses has an inside diameter of about 1 3/4 inches and is capable of withstanding a vacuum pressure of at least six inches of mercury when at least a six-inch long section thereof is subjected to a continuously increasing vacuum at room temperature.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
209 words
In a vehicle engine cooling system including the combination of a radiator containing a cooling liquid therein, a pump member to circulate the liquid through the system, a radiator outlet hose of flexible reinforced polymeric material through which the liquid is drawn due to the suction created by the pump member, and a radiator inlet hose of flexible reinforced polymeric material through which the liquid is returned to the radiator after circulating through and absorbing heat from the vehicle engine, the improvement wherein the reinforcement in at least one of said hoses comprises at least a single layer of textile fabric reinforcement having large spaces between the fabric components thereof, at least the major portion of said fabric being composed of fibers selected from the group consisting of polyester and nylon, said fibers including a coating comprising a solution of an organic polyisocyanate, said reinforcement being embedded in the wall of said hose and being adhered to said polymeric material of said hose primarily by means of a polymeric bond created by the flow of said polymeric material through the spaces between the fabric components of said reinforcement to thereby increase the bursting strength and vacuum collapse resistance of said hose without the use of a metal wire insert.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
12 words
The hose as claimed in claim 5, wherein said fibers are polyester.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
20 words
The hose as claimed in claim 5, wherein said hose includes at least one curved portion in the length thereof.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
21 words
The hose as claimed in claim 5, wherein said reinforcement is a knitted fabric embedded in the wall of said hose.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
24 words
The improvement as claimed in claim 5, wherein the flexible polymeric material selected from the group consisting of ethylene propylene terpolymer, butyl and neoprene.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
40 words
The improvement as claimed in claim 5, wherein said coating comprises a solution of from about 10 percent to about 30 percent of an organic polyisocyanate in a non-reactive solvent selected from the group consisting of trichloroethylene, trichloroethane, and toluene.
