Abstract

Abstract A temperature sensing device is described having a body defining a cylinder with a closed end and an open end. A rod extends through the open end and carries a piston which is movable with the rod in the cylinder. The piston is resiliently biased away from the closed end of the cylinder and is held near the closed end of the cylinder by a meltable metal or alloy solidified on the side of the piston toward the open end of the cylinder. When the metal or alloy melts in response to a rise in temperature, the piston moves toward the open end of the cylinder and the molten metal or alloy flows to the opposite side of the piston.
