Abstract

Abstract A low cost floating breakwater pontoon module adapted to nest with a large number of other similar pontoon modules; the modules preferably secured by structural members in an elongated rectangular array. The modules are hollow thin-walled sinter molded plastic pontoons which have unique indented peripheries such that when nested together in the breakwater array they will create a grid pattern of walls and openings extending into the upper portion of the wave to dissipate wave action by interference with the movement of fluid in the orbital flow under the wave crest.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 107 words
A hollow thin-walled plastic pontoon module comprising: an upper portion having securing means therein to nestingly accomodate a structural member; a generally rectangular longitudinally elongated central portion located below said upper portion and having protuberant end sections at each longitudinal end thereof; a laterally extending protuberant side section located between said protuberant end sections; said protuberant end sections and side section being formed by a series of connected vertical walls having an average thickness that is less than 2 percent of the vertical depth of said module; said module being provided with a sealable opening for addition of ballasting material to the interior of the pontoon module.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 107 words
A hollow thin-walled plastic pontoon module comprising: an upper portion having securing means therein to nestingly accomodate a structural member; a generally rectangular longitudinally elongated central portion located below said upper portion and having protuberant end sections at each longitudinal end thereof; a laterally extending protuberant side section located between said protuberant end sections; said protuberant end sections and side section being formed by a series of connected vertical walls having an average thickness that is less than 2 percent of the vertical depth of said module; said module being provided with a sealable opening for addition of ballasting material to the interior of the pontoon module.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
The pontoon module of claim 1 which includes a pair of oppositely disposed laterally extending protuberant side sections which extend substantially perpendicular to said protuberant end sections.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 53 words
The pontoon module of claim 1 which includes at least two pairs of laterally extending oppositely disposed protuberant side sections to thereby form between them centrally located recesses on each side of the module; said recesses having inner vertical walls which are substantially parallel to the vertical walls of said protuberant end sections.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
The pontoon of claim 1 wherein said upper portion comprises a T-shaped section forming a pair of recesses which are sized to nest a pair of longitudinally extending structural members.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 36 words
The pontoon of claim 4 wherein said protuberant side sections each have substantially flat vertical outer wall surfaces and said protuberant end sections are each notched for the purpose of nesting a laterally extending structural member.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
A pontoon according to claim 5 which measures approximately five feet in width by 10 feet in length and five feet in depth, and has an average vertical wall thickness of the order of one-half inch.
