Abstract

Abstract A wrist watch is provided with a rotatable day wheel containing indicia denoting the different days of the week and a date ring containing indicia denoting the date. A clutch member is axially slidable along the watch winding stem through a lever system in response to axial movement of the winding stem, and the clutch member is moved into engagement with a winding pinion or a gear system to respectively effect winding of the watch mainspring or changing of the day and date settings in dependence upon the extent of said movement of the winding stem and its direction of rotation. The lever system includes a pivotal setting lever connected to the winding stem and a pivotal clutch lever engageable with and driven by the setting lever to effect axial movement of the clutch member. The clutch lever has a recess therein which cooperates with a projection on the setting lever to disengage the two levers during axial movement of the winding stem thereby preventing unintentional changing of either the day or date settings during axial movement of the winding stem.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 314 words
In a wrist watch: day display means automatically angularly displaceable during running of the watch for visibly displaying the day of the week; date display means automatically angularly displaceable during running of the watch for visibly displaying the date; a rotatable winding stem mounted for manual axial movement to a day-and-date changing position and a hand-setting position; movable transmitting means operative when engaged with said winding stem for alternatively moving into engagement with said day display means in response to angular displacement of said winding stem in one direction whereby further angular displacement of said winding stem in said one direction effects angular displacement of said day display means to accordingly change the day setting thereof and movable into engagement with said date display means in response to angular displacement of said winding stem in the other direction whereby further angular displacement of said winding stem in said other direction effects angular displacement of said date display means to accordingly change the date setting thereof; hand-setting means operative when engaged with said winding stem for effecting movement of the watch hands in response to angular displacement of said winding stem to accordingly set the watch hands at the desired time setting; engaging means for effecting releasable engagement of said winding stem with said transmitting means when said winding stem is in said day-and-date changing position and coacting with said transmitting means to effect releasable engagement of said winding stem with said hand-setting means when said winding stem is in said hand-setting position; and preventing means coacting with said transmitting means and said engaging means for preventing angular displacement of both said day display means and said date display means in response to angular displacement of said winding stem during the shifting of said winding stem from said day-and-date changing position to said hand-setting position and from said hand-setting position to said day-and-date changing position.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 132 words
A wrist watch according to claim 1; wherein said engaging means includes a clutch member mounted for axial movement along said winding stem and for rotational movement with said winding stem, a pivotally mounted clutch lever in enGagement with said clutch member and operative in response to pivotal movement thereof to axially move said clutch member along said winding stem into engagement with either said transmitting means or said hand-setting means depending upon the extent of pivotal movement of said clutch lever, and a pivotally mounted setting lever coupled to said winding stem whereby axial movement of said winding stem effects pivotal movement of said setting lever and having a camming projection engageable with said clutch lever to effect pivotal camming movement thereof in response to axial movement of said winding stem.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 116 words
A wrist watch according to claim 2; wherein said preventing means comprises means defining a recess in said clutch lever dimensioned to receive therein said camming projection in response to initial axial movement of said winding stem both from said day-and-date changing position toward said hand-setting position and from said hand-setting position toward said day-and-date changing position thereby permitting slight pivotal movement of said clutch lever relative to said setting lever, and biasing means biasing said clutch lever toward said setting lever and effecting slight pivotal movement of said clutch lever toward said setting lever a distance sufficient to disengage said clutch member from said transmitting means whenever said camming projection is received within said recess.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 134 words
A wrist watch according to claim 2; wherein said transmitting means comprises a rotatable setting wheel having means thereon for engaging with said clutch member when said winding stem is in said day-and-date changing position, a pivotal swing lever, means frictionally engaging said swing lever with said setting wheel for effecting pivotal movement of said swing lever in response to angular displacement of said setting wheel and for permitting slippage between said swing lever and setting wheel, and a wheel assembly rotatably mounted on said swing lever for pivotal movement therewith and in constant engagement with said setting wheel and engageable with either said day display means or said date display means in response to and depending upon the direction of pivotal movement of said swing lever effected by rotation of said winding stem.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 43 words
A wrist watch according to claim 2; wherein said clutch member comprises a pair of clutch discs each having means for releasably engaging with one of said hand-setting means and said transmitting means, and means interconnecting said clutch discs in spaced-apart opposed relationship.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 44 words
A wrist watch according to claim 2; wherein said day display means comprises a rotatable day wheel having indicia thereon denoting the different days of the week; and wherein said date display means comprises a rotatable date ring having indicia thereon denoting different dates.
