Abstract
Abstract A WATER-SOLUBLE POLYALKYLENEPOLYAMINE IS PROVIDED WITH CARBAMOYL SUBSTITUENTS BY REACTION WITH A CYANATE OR WITH UREA, AND THEN REACTED WITH GLYOXAL. THE RESULTING POLYMER IS WATER-SOLUBLE CATIONIC AND THERMOSETTING AND PRODUCES PAPER OF GOOD INITIAL WET STRENGTH BUT WHICH LOSES MUCH OF ITS WET STRENGTH RAPIDLY ON NORMAL WEATHERING.
