Abstract

Abstract The disclosure is of a seal to be used in a well immediately above a pump and at or below the normal level of the water in the well casing to prevent the movement of water and air downwardly past the seal into the area of the pump. The seal is designed to permit the necessary service connections to be passed through it and then adjusted to tightly seal about these connections before installation of the seal in the well. A chemical treatment conduit extends from the surface of the well through the seal in sealed engagement therewith and has a discharge opening below the seal such that chemicals can be introduced through the conduit under pressure into the water below the seal for the chemical treatment thereof.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 166 words
A method of chemically treating a well having a casing comprising the steps of providing a pipe to withdraw water from said well; submerging the intake end of said pipe below the surface of the water in said well when the water level is stabilized at its normal level; positioning a seal having a resilient sealing member below the water level for continuously sealing the area between said pipe and said casing below the surface of said water to prevent air or water passing downwardly into that portion of the casing below the seal during the normal operation of the well; extending a conduit for chemicals downwardly and externally of said pipe and passing said conduit in sealed engagement through said resilient sealing member to position a discharge opening of said conduit below said seal; positioning a submersible pump below said seal and in communication with the intake end of said pipe; introducing chemicals through said conduit under pressure directly into the water below said seal.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
A method as defined in claim 1 wherein chemicals are caused to flow into the water below the seal when water is withdrawn from below the seal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method as defined in claim 1 and including the additional step of pumping water upwardly through said pipe for withdrawing the chemically treated water through said pipe.
