Abstract THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF CARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND ESTERS, SPECIFICALLY BY THE REACTION OF ALCOHOLS OR THE ESTER, ETHER AND HALIDE DERIVATIVES THEREOF, WITH CARBON MONOXIDE IN THE PRESENCE OF CATALYST SYSTEMS CONTAINING AS ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS A RHODIUM COMPONENT AND A HALOGEN COMPONENT. THE PROCESS IS ALSO DIRECTED TO THE PRODUCTION OF MIXTURES OF ORGANIC ACIDS AND/OR ORGANIC ESTERS.
