Abstract

Abstract A Manifold imaging system wherein a cohesively weak photoresponsive imaging layer is sandwiched between two sheets. The imaging layer is exposed to a pattern of actinic electromagnetic radiation and an electric field providing upon separation of the sheets a positive image on one sheet and a negative image on the other.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 91 words
A manifold imaging apparatus comprising a substantially transparent first electrode adapted to support one side of an imaging layer, means to apply an activator to said imaging layer, a second electrode adapted to contact the side of said imaging layer opposite said first electrode, mEans to apply an electric field across said imaging layer between said electrodes, means to expose said imaging layer to an imagewise pattern of actinic electromagnetic radiation through said first electrode, and means to separate said first electrode from said second electrode whereby an image is formed.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 91 words
A manifold imaging apparatus comprising a substantially transparent first electrode adapted to support one side of an imaging layer, means to apply an activator to said imaging layer, a second electrode adapted to contact the side of said imaging layer opposite said first electrode, mEans to apply an electric field across said imaging layer between said electrodes, means to expose said imaging layer to an imagewise pattern of actinic electromagnetic radiation through said first electrode, and means to separate said first electrode from said second electrode whereby an image is formed.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said imaging layer is positioned between a donor layer and a receiver layer and further including means to separate said donor layer and said receiver layer whereby an image is formed.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
The apparatus according to claim 1 further including means to squeeze out excess activator.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said means to apply an activator to said imaging layer comprises a fluid reservoir and means to spray said activator onto said imaging layer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 160 words
A manifold imaging apparatus wherein an imaging layer, structurally fracturable in response to the combined effects of an applied electric field and exposure to electromagnetic radiation to which it is sensitive, it is fractured in imagewise configuration, comprising an insulating donor substrate backed with a conductive electrode layer, an insulating receiver sheet backed with a conductive electrode layer, at least one of said donor substrate and receiver sheet, together with its conductive electrode layer being at least partially transparent to said electromagnetic radiation, said donor substrate and receiver sheet adapted to sandwich an imaging layer therebetween, a potential source connected to said conductive electrodes to apply an electric field across said imaging layer, means to expose said imaging layer to an imagewise pattern of electromagnetic radiation to which said imaging layer is sensitive and means to separate said donor substrate from said receiver sheet while maintaining said field across said imaging layer whereby said imaging layer fractures in imagewise configuration.
Claim 7
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 16 words
The apparatus of claim 5 further including means to apply an activator to said imaging layer.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 17 words
The apparatus of claim 6 further including means to squeeze out excess activator from said imaging layer.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 44 words
The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said insulating donor substrate backed with a conductive electrode layer is at least partially transparent to electromagnetic radiation to which said imaging layer is sensitive and said exposure means provides exposure of said imaging layer through said substrate.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 44 words
The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said receiver sheet backed with a conductive electrode layer is at least partially transparent to electromagnetic radiation to which said imaging layer is sensitive and said exposure means provides exposure of said imaging layer through said receiver sheet.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 27 words
The apparatus of claim 6 wherein said activator means comprises a fluid reservoir and spraying means to spray said activator from said reservoir onto said imaging layer.
