Abstract

Abstract An announcing system for providing a family of recorded announcements. The length of the announcement cycle is shortened in response to the number of subscriber lines waiting to be connected to the announcing system being in excess of the number of subscriber lines which can be connected to the announcing system by the telephone central office equipment. However, the announcement system also provides for selected segments of an announcement without changing the length of the announcement cycle or making the deletion apparent to anyone listening to the announcement.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 181 words
Announcing system comprising: first announcing means for providing a first audio message to a message circuit; second announcing means operative in response to the termination of the first audio message to provide a second audio message to the message circuit; timing means operative in response to the termination of the first audio message to provide a control signal at the conclusion of an interval of time corresponding to the duration of the second audio message; first pulse means responsive to said control signal to provide a termination signal to the message circuit; second pulse means responsive to said control signal to provide a connection signal to the message circuit after said termination signal is provided; switch means selectively operative to connect said first and second pulse means to be operative responsive to termination of the first audio message; and delay means connected to said switch means to be selectively responsive to termination of the first audio message and operAtive to delay the provision of said connection signal for a period of time corresponding to the duration of said second audio message.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 181 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 185 words
Announcing system comprising: first announcing means for providing a first audio message to a message circuit; second announcing means operative in response to the termination of the first audio message to provide a second audio message to the message circuit; first timing means operative in response to the termination of the first audio message to provide a first control signal at the conclusion of a first interval of time corresponding to the duration of the second audio message; third announcing means operative in response to said first control signal to provide a third audio message to the message circuit commencing subsequent to the termination of the second audio message; second timing means responsive to said first control signal to provide a second control signal at the conclusion of a second interval of time corresponding to the duration of the third audio message; first pulse means responsive to said second control signal to provide a termination signal to the message circuit; and second pulse means responsive to said second control signal to provide a connection signal to the message circuit after said termination signal is provided.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 96 words
Apparatus as in claim 2, further comprising: switch means selectively operative to connect said third announcing means and said second timing means for operation responsive to the termination of said first audio message, so that said second audio message is not provided to the message circuit; and delay means connected to said switch means to be selectively responsive to the termination of the first audio message and operatively connected with said second pulse means to delay the provision of said connection signal for a period of time corresponding to the duration of the second audio message.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 193 words
Apparatus as in claim 2, further comprising: switch means selectively operative to a normal position wherein said second announcing means and said first timing means are operative responsive to the termination of said first audio message, a first alternate position wherein said third announcing means and said second timing means are operative responsive to the termination of the first audio message, and a second alternative position connected to supply a signal to said first and second pulse means responsive to the termination of the first audio message; first delay means responsive to said termination of the first audio message when said switch means is in the first alternate position and operatively connected with said second pulse means to delay the provision of said connection signal for a period of time corresponding to the duration of the second audio signal; and second delay means responsive to said termination of the first audio message when said switch means is in the second alternate position and operatively connected with said second pulse means to delay the provision of said connection signal for a period corresponding to the combined durations of the second and third audio signals.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 68 words
Apparatus as in claim 2, in which the period of time between provision of said connection signal and said termination signal normally is a first period of duration at least equal to the combined duration of said first, second, and third audio messages; and wherein said first announcing means includes means operative in response to an input signal to provide a modified first audio message of shortened duration.
