Abstract
Abstract A METHOD OF DECREASING THE MINIMUM RESIDENCE TIME IN THE MOLD IN THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTICLES OF FOAMED POLYSTYRENE, BY PRESSURING AIR INTO THE MOLD. PREFOAMED POLYSTYRENE PARTICLES ARE INTRODUCED INTO DOUBLE-WALLED MOLDS OR CHANNELS HAVING PERFORATED WALLS. STREAM AT A PRESSURE OF FROM 0.5-1.2 ATMOSPHERES GAUGE IS THEN INTRODUCED INTO THE MOLDS OF CHANNELS TO FOAM AND COALESCE THE PARTICLES TOGETHER. SUBSEQUENTLY, A GAS (PREFERABLY AIR) INITIALLY AT A PRESSURE OF 0.2 TO 1.5 ATMOSPHERES GAUGE IS INTO MOLD OR CHANNEL AND STEADILY REDUCED TO 0 TO 0.2 ATMOSPHERE GAUGE. THE PRODUCT IS THEN REMOVED FROM THE MOLD OR CHANNEL.
