A piezoelectric ceramic material consisting essentially of a solid solution of Bi(Li1/2Nb1/2)O3, Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3, PbTiO3, and PbZrO3, said solid solution being represented by the formula: (Pb1 u v.Biu.AEMv).((Li1/2.Nb1/2)u.(Ni1/3.Nb2/3)x.Tiy.Zrz).O3, wherein AEM represents at least one alkaline-earth metal element selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr, and Ba and wherein u + x + y + z 1.00, the molecular ratios u, v, x, y, and z being given by a set of the following inequalities: 0.02 < or = u < or = 0.40, 0.00 < or = v < or = 0.10, 0.35 < or = x < or = 0.60, 0.20 < or = y < or = 0.50, and 0.05 < or = z < or = 0.30.
