Abstract

Abstract A cable for marine applications includes a series of discrete noncollapsible or rigid buoyant members carried inside a sheath which serves to hydrodynamically streamline the cable as well as providing electrical insulation. The cable in addition to containing electrical conductors does contain other elements such as fiber optics, hydraulic liners and wire or glass ropes. Furthermore, the buoyancy elements are sized to ensure neutral buoyancy and are formed to be relatively noncollapsible to provide the neutrally buoyant capability irrespective of changing ambient pressures.
