Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 122 words
Apparatus for selectively propagating waves in a direction having a component parallel to an interface comprising, means defining discrete phase-ordered media along said interface characterized by a wave refraction constant and a spacing d between lattice planes generally parallel to said interface, a source of said waves, and means for establishing the wavelength, polarization and angle of incidence upon said interface of said waves to selectively propagate said waves in a direction having a component parallel to said interface in a pre-determined manner controlled by said wave refraction constant and said spacing d and establish a substantial phase difference between wave fronts at adjacent ones of said lattice planes in the forward scattered direction at least of the order of a radian.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 122 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
Apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said waves are electromagnetic and metal comprises said media.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 16 words
Apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said waves are electromagnetic and dielectric comprises said media.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 48 words
Apparatus in accordance with claim 3 wherein said angle of incidence is a small grazing angle slightly greater than zero degrees with said wave refraction constant and said lattice spacing being such that only narrow bands of electromagnetic waves of predetermined polarization and wavelength propagate in said direction.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 37 words
Apparatus in accordance with claim 4 and further comprising means for adjusting and measuring said angle of incidence, and means for detecting the wavelength, intensity and polarization of the waves propagated by said apparatus in said direction.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
Apparatus in accordance with claim 4 wherein at least one small angle of incidence produces substantially total reflection.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 43 words
Apparatus in accordance with claim 5 wherein said means for detecting includes means for detecting transmitted waves and means for detecting reflected waves, and further comprising means for stressing said media to effect the ratio of transmitted wave intensity to reflected wave intensity.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 38 words
Apparatus in accordance with claim 6 wherein said media surround different media of wave refraction constant less than that of said first-mentioned media whereby waves may propagate through said second media by multiple reflections from said first-mentioned media.
