Abstract
Abstract Disclosed is a method of treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore. The method comprises injecting down the wellbore and subjecting to above atmospheric pressure an essentially anhydrous mixture comprising liquid carbon dioxide as a first component together with a second component of an alcohol gelled to a viscosity of at least 10 centipoise with a hydroxyalkyl cellulose. The alcohol is selected from those alcohols containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms with the hydroxyalkyl cellulose being further defined in that it is substituted at the primary alcohol position with alkyls containing 3 or 4 carbon atoms.
