Abstract

Abstract The present invention relates to a composition and process for the substantial reduction of thermal degration of aqueous drilling fluids and additives thereto by utilizing non-halogencontaining acrylic acid polymers or alkali metal or ammonium salts thereof having a weight average molecular weight no greater than about 2,500, said polymer being added to said drilling fluid in an amount from about 1 ppb to about 6 ppb.
