Abstract A METHOD FOR REMOVING MERCURY FROM A MERCURY CELL CAUSTIC SODA OR CAUSTIC POTASH SOLUTION WHEREIN A VAPOR OR GAS IS PASSED THROUGH THE SOLUTION IN THE PRESENCE OF A SMALL AMOUNT OF A REDUCING AGENT. CAUSTIC SOLUTIONS ARE OBTAINED CONTAINING AS LOW A CONCENTRATION OF MERCURY AS 0.01 PART PER MILLION. SPECIAL MEANS ARE PROVIDED FOR RECOVERY OF THE MERCURY.
